arcsin and arctan² Correlation

I worked on the 256 measures I took. The measures recorded the x- and y-axis mV outputs from the accelerometer.
I centered and reduced both series so values are now in a [-1..+1] bracket. |

This graphic sounds familiar, doesn't it?

Now, I compare arcsin(x*) and arctan²(x*,y*).
Both look pretty close on a [-90°..+90°] range. |
|
|
On a [-60°..+60°] bracket, correlation between arcsin(x*) and arctan²(x*,y*) is close to perfect linearity, with R²=0,9974.
|
|
|
So arcsin(x*) provides a good measure of the angle, saving priceless resources for other calculations.
